The Case For Libel Reform
Simon Singh
Simon Singh details recent news regarding the libel case brought against him by the British Chiropractic Association for an article he wrote in the Guardian criticizing chiropractic. He talks about English libel laws, and explains why he says they are the worst in the Western world. He details how the recent appeals court decision in his case could have a positive effect on the scientific community. He describes the difference between “honest opinion” and facts as they are viewed both in libel cases and in science. And he reveals how the skeptical community in Britain organized a coordinated campaign against chiropractic, leading to investigation of one in four chiropractors there.
In this week’s installment of the Honest Liar, Jamy Ian Swiss allows us to witness a street-side scam in the heart of Times Square.

Listener Reactions
dmab,
I’d say that religion seriously has no future. Its adherents keeps inciting wars and killing off followers through ignorance and neglect. Religious followers work women into the ground, forcing them to bear unwanted children, mutilating women for obscure reasons, and forcing young girls to submit to rapists as part of a religious observance. They fly planes into buildings. They rape children. They steal. They lie. They cheat. And all in the name of their invisible sky fairies. What it comes down to is that religion wants to thrive on your gullibility. As long as religious folks can grab your money, they care little about your soul.
But I don’t expect you to accept that. You’d rather wish death on those who don’t see things your way.
Typical.
Holy sh*t. Thank goodness there is no heaven, can you seriously imagine being stuck with dmab for eternity? Now there’s a dangerous zealot… Hopefully he’s not Muslim..
I always have like you on Point of Inquiry DJ. I just have to say thank you for the new show and also for introducing me to Jamy Ian Swiss - he is so great to hear each week.
What a great podcast. D.J. Grothe does a brilliant job interviewing the guests. I particularly enjoyed this episode’s dose of The Honest Liar. Jamy Ian Swiss narrated the story in a very entertaining, engaging manner. It surely sucked me in and you have no idea how eager I am to learn of ‘how’ the street-side scam was played out. This podcast rocks!
